Obituary

David Lawrence Brown, age 79, a lifelong resident of Gadsden, Alabama, passed away on November 13, 2024. He was born to Clyde Layton and Louise Brown on December 27, 1944, and was the second of four children.

David's life was defined by a deep and unwavering love for his family. Whether as a father, grandfather, coach, or brother, David's greatest joy came from the time spent with those he loved. He was a devoted father to his daughter Tena, sons, Jason and Justin, and a proud grandfather to Sydney, Dex, and Colin, as well as a doting great-grandfather to Hudson. His love and commitment to his family were the foundation of his life, and he was happiest when surrounded by them.

In addition to his family, David was passionate about college football, hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors. His love for the Alabama Crimson Tide was legendary, and many of his fondest memories were made cheering on the team with his loved ones. David also found joy in the simple pleasures of life—gardening, riding his tractor, and taking in the beauty of nature. His career at the local steel plant spanned nearly 40 years, and his work ethic was as steadfast as his devotion to his family.

David also had a heart for mentoring others. As a coach of baseball, basketball, and football, he impacted the lives of countless young athletes, instilling in them not only skills on the field but also values of teamwork, respect, and perseverance.

David was preceded in death by his beloved son, Jason Lawrence Brown; his cherished daughter, Tena Lee Edwards; and his parents, Clyde and Louise Brown.

He is survived by his son, Justin Brown; his grandchildren, Sydney Hargett, Dex Edwards, and Colin Edwards; his great-grandson, Hudson Hargett; his brother, Michael L. Brown; and his sisters, Jeanie L. Brown and Laura L. Brown; and his former spouse, Eva Lee Brown, the mother of his children. He is also lovingly remembered by his nieces, Lily D. Brown, Amanda L. Dowdy, Avery L. Dowdy, Ben Brown, Laurie McMamus, Sherrill Houari, Josh Milner, and Scott Milner; his son-in-law, Terry Edwards.

Pallbearers: Terry Edwards, Dex Edwards, Colin Edwards, Colton Hargett, Michael LeCroy, Roger Dale
