Funeral Service will be at 11 am Tuesday at Crestwood Chapel for Mr. Daniel W. Owens age 73, of Gadsden who died Saturday, February 28, 2009. Dr. Charles Owens, Jr. and Rev. James O. Wallace will officiate. Burial will be in Crestwood Cemetery. Crestwood Funeral Home is in charge.
Mr. Owens was a graduate of Gadsden High School class of 1953, he had been employed by Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, was the original owner of IGA Foodliner. He was a former Alabama State Trooper and Security Officer for former Governor George C. Wallace during the 1968 Presidential Campaign. He was a former member of the Alabama Air National Guard 31st Infantry, and was a member of the First Advent Christian Church of Gadsden.
He was preceded in death by his parents W.E. and Ophelia Owens, Sr.; brothers, W.E. Owens, Jr., Albert Owens, Sr., and James Carlton Owens, Sr.; sister Dorothy Ann Owens; and brother-in-law Lee Espy.
He is survived by his daughters, Julia Owens of Tampa, FL and Jacqueline (Randy) Snell of Southside; grandchildren, Britany and Allison Townsel, and Melissa and Mallorie Snell; great-grandchildren, Mary and Caitlin Dillinger and Haley and John Sheridan; brother, Don (Linda) Owens; sisters Ruby Espy and Juanita (Guy) Whisenant; sister-in law , Julia Owens; special friend Cindy Peppers; favorite pet, Mittens; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Galen Whisenant, Walt Whisenant, A.G. Lang, Saul Lang, Jerry Johnson, Ben Reed, and Jimmy Espy.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8pm TONIGHT at the funeral home.
