Bryson, Daniel Lawrence
Dan Bryson passed away Saturday, February 26, 2011 in Gadsden, Alabama, at the age of 87. He was born June 29, 1923, to Jesse Eugene Bryson and Blanche Hudson Bryson. He was educated in Walker County, graduating from high school at the age of 16. He married Edith Davis in 1943. They celebrated 62 years together before Edna's death in 2006.
He worked at the port of Mobile during World War II and then as an auditor for the State of Alabama for several years. For most of his adult life he owned and operated successful businesses which he created. He pursued many interests throughout life and always enjoyed learning something new and challenging. He loved driving across the country and seeing the United States. He and Edna lived in Florida for several years and spent many happy hours on his boat. Dan (Dadoo to his grandchildren) was a master story-teller. His favorite moments were spent "Swapping tales" with family and friends. He was devoted to his grandchildren and delighted in telling stories to them and about them. Dan was a life member of the Masons celebrating 50 years in 1989.
Mr. Bryson was preceded in death by his wife Edna Davis Bryson; parents, Gene and Blanche Bryson; and sisters, Jessie Ellen and Anella.
Dan is survived by his son, Dan Michael Bryson (Mary Ann) of Henderson , Maryland; his daughter, Charlotte Crosson (Bill) of Gadsden; brother, Eugene Hudson Bryson (Ethelee); grandchildren, Dr. Daniel Ryan (Jamie), David Ryan (Hunter), Jon Bryson (Rebecca) and Scott Bryson; great-grandchildren, Anna Beth Ryan, Katie Ryan, Kelly Ryan, Davis Ryan, Margaret Ross Ryan, and Andrew Bryson; chosen grandchildren, Brad (Deanna) Crosson and Lacey (Chris) Cornelius; chosen great-grandchildren, Ingram and Gaines Crosson, Noel Turner, and Kimberly and Ann Bradlee Crosson; sisters-in-law, Billie Parris and Doris Ruth Berry; a number of nieces and nephews; and special friend Vernelle Hutchison.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Dwight Harper and Dr. Jason Junkins.
Special thanks to the staffs of Gadsden Regional Hospital, Healthsouth Rehab Hospital, and McGuffy's Rehab First.
Funeral services will be at 1pm Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at Crestwood Chapel. The Reverend Eddie Nichols will officiate. Burial will be in Crestwood Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 12 Noon until the service time Tuesday at Crestwood Funeral Home.
