Charlie, known as Charlie Boy by his family, was born on September 17, 1924 in Gadsden, AL.

He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend to many over his 100 years.

He proudly worked for the Alabama State Highway Department for 30 years before retiring. He only stayed home for a short time before returning to the workforce for 10 more years in the Sporting Goods department at Wal-Mart when they first came to town. His greatest joy was his family. He was married to his wife, Anne, for 37 years and was a wonderful father to his daughter, Sarah. Charlie adored his three grandchildren and cherished every moment that he spent with them. He especially liked to spend time with his son in law, Scott. His favorite pastime was telling stories about his life experiences and his family history. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, genealogy and watching Auburn sports. Charlie was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and gained many special friends over the years. He was always up to participate in church events or volunteer his time in the community. He was thrilled to celebrate his 100th birthday in 2024 with several events given in his honor. He was welcomed into the Rainbow City Centenarian Club and proudly rode in the 2024 Veteran's Day Parade.

He was preceded in passing by his loving wife, Anne Stoddard Walker; his parents, John Sidney, Sr. and Buena Vista (White) Walker; his sister Dorothy Walker Rutland and his brothers John Sidney, Jr. and David Taylor Walker.

He is survived by his devoted daughter, Sarah Walker Savage, his son-in-law Jeffery Scott Savage and his grandchildren, Jacob Walker, Samuel Wilson and Anna Grace Savage. He was Uncle to Charlie to many nieces and nephews for several generations. Charlie was also dearly cared for by Rachel Harden, his caregiver of many years.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Howell, Mike Grieco and members of the St. James Knights of Columbus. Honorary Pallbearer is Jason Stinson.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. James Catholic School.

Special thanks to Dr. Elquis Castillo and the staff of Hematology and Oncology Associates of Alabama Gadsden Cancer Center.
