Funeral services will be at 11am TODAY at Crestwood Chapel for Mr. Charles Lawrence Johnson of Gadsden who died in a local nursing home at 4pm Saturday, July 28, 2012, after an extended illness. Rev. Taylor Gallman will officiate. Burial will be in Crestwood Cemetery. Crestwood Funeral Home is in charge.
Mr. Johnson was a lifelong resident of Etowah County. He served as a pharmacist in Gadsden and Anniston for many years. He was a combat veteran of WW II serving in the European Theatre General Patton's 3rd Army 5th Division. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, two battle stars, and was in the group that relieved the 101st Division of the Battle of the Bulge. He was also a member of Bellevue United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bert Walter and Lorene Eley Johnson; and sister, Betty Joe Johnson Burch.
He is survived by his wife, Elsie Means Johnson; brother, Jerry Wayne Johnson, of Hokes Bluff; and sister, Marie Johnson Lambert, of Gadsden.
The family will receive friends from 10 until 11am Today at the funeral home.
