Funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at Crestwood Funeral Chapel for Catherine Bishop Madison, 86, of Gadsden, who passed away on Monday, May 28, 2012, at 11:40 p.m. The Rev. Mark Puckett will officiate, and Anne McNabb will provide the music. Burial will be in Crestwood Cemetery. Crestwood Funeral Home is in charge. Catherine Bishop Madison was the widow of the late Captain Garland Ethridge Madison, U.S. Air Force, and the daughter of the late Robert Sherman Bishop and Ethel Pounds Bishop. She was a native of Montezuma, Ga., but had resided in Etowah County since 1927. She was the granddaughter of the late James R. Pounds Sr. and Annie Lasseter Pounds of Gadsden, Ala., and the late William Benjamin Bishop and Treasy Jett Bishop of Albertville, Ala. She was the great-granddaughter of the late William F. Lasseter, a well-known Methodist minister in Arkansas. We are so very thankful for her life, which was a blessing to all who knew her. For over 25 years, she was affiliated with Tanglewood Apartments Inc. Prior to that, she was employed as a bookkeeper and also by the U.S. Government as an accountant. In this capacity, she was awarded a Superior Accomplishment Award. She was enrolled in the East Gadsden Methodist Cradle Roll Department on Feb. 15, 1927, and early in life became a member of the church. She was a member of the Berean Sunday School class. She is survived by her brother, James Robert Bishop; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. Pallbearers will be Joe Atkins, Jerry Hall, George (Pat) Bishop, Arthur Faulkner, Scott Faulkner and Charles Tolleson. Honorary pallbearers will be all former ministers of East Gadsden United Methodist Church, members of the Berean class, and all personal friends. The family would like to thank Dr. Thomas Corley, along with his staff, for the medical care she received. The family also thanks the Gadsden Regional hospital and Home Health for their services. And lastly, thanks go to Clara Collins, Elsie Cook, Rebecca Curry and Emma Crayton for their help and dedication. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a favorite charity or the East Gadsden United Methodist Church, located at 201 S. Eighth St., Gadsden, AL 35903. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
