Claudette Bailey Wagnon was born in Blount County, Alabama, on July 3,1935. Her family moved to Etowah County where she spent her adult life, where she worked, went to church, and married her husband of 59 years. Claudette's life was a testament to the power of living with grace and purpose. Her servant's heart and selflessness made her beloved by all who knew her. She loved her Lord and Savior, and He and her family were the center of her world. She took immense pride in attending her greats and grands school activities and sporting events, always encouraging, always supporting, and always cheering. A "green thumb", she nurtured beautiful flowers and canned the vegetables from the garden that she and Billy Joe cultivated for many years. Claudette claimed that her only talent was cooking. She shared this talent with family, friends, and her church family at Paden Baptist Church. If you ate her fried chicken and biscuits or if you had an apple or chocolate pie delivered to your home, you knew it was cooked with love and you were loved. Maw Maw saw to it that her babies were never too thin or too cold. She would chase them with a biscuit in one hand and a jacket in the other. Sunday dinners were a cherished tradition that family was required to attend each week. Friends of grandkids were always welcome and they visited frequently just to get a taste of her food. Claudette delighted in preparing a feast each week so that her family would come together in the warmth of her home. Her devotion to loved ones was unwavering and she made family a priority in every season of her life. A steadfast presence, her loved ones say that she was determined, and lady-like. She was old school and unapologetically genuine. She was the glue, and the matriarch of the family. Whether wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin or friend, she was strong and reliable. Whether Danny Joe, Donna Denise, Claybaby, LaLa, J, Hutch, Harp or Hal, all will have the memory of a life well-lived and will share it with future generations.
Pallbearers for Claudette will be Seth Shirley, Jordan Hutcheson, Todd Means, Dustin Means, Derrick Means and Chris Sims.
The family wishes to express gratitude for the love and care shown to Claudette by Doctor Courtney Lowe, Dr. Kumudchandra Shah, Dr. Virenjan Naryan, Dr. Jaiswell, and hospice nurse, Savannah Deerman.
