Obituary

Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Monday at Crestwood Funeral Home for Mr. Byron Eugene Sexton, 59, of Hokes Bluff, who died Thursday, May 15, 2014. The Revs. Hershey Taylor and Barry Cunningham will officiate. Burial will be in Crestwood Cemetery. Crestwood Funeral Home is in charge of services.
Mr. Sexton was a 1973 graduate of Glencoe High School and a dedicated family man with an extremely strong work ethic. He coached young men 7 to 18 years of age in Babe Ruth Baseball for 23 years, loved golf, JSU football games, the JSU Marching Southerners, Gaylesville and Hokes Bluff High School athletics, Major League Baseball trivia and Braves baseball. He was employed at Gulf States Steel for 23 years and U.S. Steel Fairfield Works for 12 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, L.V. and Nora Sexton; mother-in-law, Sybil Wadkins; brother-in-law, Ray Jenkins; and uncle, Larry Messer.
He is survived by wife of 38 years, Vickie Sexton; sons, Brian (Leann) Sexton and Tim Sexton; grandson, Brayden Sexton; sister, Judy Jenkins; brother, Donald (Brenda) Sexton; brothers-in-law, David Wadkins, Andy (Allison) Wadkins; nieces and nephews, Rick (Debbie) Jenkins, Lisa (Mike) Murdock, Karen (Clarence) Sullivan, Shane Sexton, Shannon Chadwick, Shanna Wadkins, Anderson Wadkins, Heather James; and his special group of co-workers who were beloved friends at Fairfield Steel and Gulf States Steel.
The pallbearers will be former baseball players who represent various age groups he had the privilege of working with over the course of 23 wonderful years.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 until 4 p.m. today.
