It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Brenda Carol Gray Amberson, age 70, of Gadsden, Alabama, who passed away November 17, 2024. Brenda lived a life full of love, adventure, and kindness, and she will be dearly missed by all who know her.

Brenda was born on April 5, 1954, in Gadsden, Alabama, and spent her early years there before living in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, and Pensacola, Florida. She later made her home in Nashville, Tennessee, before returning to Gadsden to be close to family. Brenda graduated from Alabama Christian University, where she came to be a medical transcriptionist. She took great pride in her work, especially during her many years at Vanderbilt University Hospital.

As a lover of the outdoors, Brenda was happiest when on the water. She found peace and joy in activities such as skiing, sailing, and scuba diving. She had an adventurous spirit and was always ready to take on new experiences. Brenda also had a vibrant and social personality, enjoying concerts, spending time with friends and family, and engaging in lively conversations.

As a lover of animals, she always had her beloved Tyler, a white Westie, and later Tina, a Sheltie.  She was preceded in death by her parents Brodie and Jimmie Gray, B.H. and Jean Bryant.

She is survived by her loving husband, Gary Amberson, with whom she shared 20 wonderful years. Brenda is also survived by her sons, Michael and Joseph Amberson, her sister, Cheryl (Glenn) Amberson, her nephew, Nik Amberson, her niece, Jonalyn (Shane) Markley, along with many cousins, extended family, and dear friends. Brenda will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, and friend, whose enduring warmth, and adventurous spirit touched the lives of everyone around her.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at 2:00 PM in the chapel at Crestwood Funeral Home, with visitation from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM. The family invites all those who knew Brenda to join them in celebrating her life and legacy.

The pallbearers will be Nik Amberson, Shane Markley, Robert Amberson, Glenn Amberson, and Joey Amberson.

The family extends special thanks to the staff at Gadsden Regional Medical Center SICU and Encompass Health for their compassionate care during Brenda's final days.

Brenda will be deeply missed but will always be remembered for her spirit of adventure, and her deep connection to those she loved.
