Bobbie Raye Hicks, 92, of Glencoe, Alabama passed away Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at her home. Funeral service will be held Saturday, May 29, 12 noon, at Crestwood Funeral Home with visitation from 10 am until time of service. Rev. Donny Yarbrough will officiate; Rev. Byron Brown will provide music. Graveside service following at Crestwood Cemetery.
Bobbie was born September 15, 1928, in Winston County, Alabama. She graduated from Gadsden High School in 1948 and married her long-time sweetheart, Wendell, in 1950. She was secretary of Glencoe Elementary School for 17 years and after retirement she returned to Glencoe Elementary as Director of the Extended Day Program. She was a faithful member of Glencoe First Baptist Church for many years where she served in various ministries, including children's Sunday School teacher. Bobbie was a gifted seamstress and loved knitting and crocheting. She knitted over 60 prayer shawls, giving them to friends and family in their time of sickness or loss. Most of all she cherished and loved spending time with her family and friends.
Bobbie was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Wendell Hicks; parents, Ray and Velma Blanton; brother, Hoyt Blanton; sisters, Kathryn Phillips and Joyce Luker.
She is survived by her daughter, Rhenee (Robert) Brown; son, Wendell Ray (Cathy) Hicks; grandchildren: Lance (Sara) Brown, Lana (Keith) Ricketts, Jacob (Madison) Johnston, Paul Hicks; great-grandchildren: Laura and Emily Brown; sisters-in-law, Betty (Bob) McAbee, Gladys Brown, several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be: Lance Brown, Paul Hicks, Jacob Johnston, Keith Ricketts, Joe Keith Phillips, and Zach Phillips.
The family expresses special thanks to her loving caregivers, Faye Payne and Tammy Crowe.
