Billy Eugene Summerlin passed away on October 30, 2018 at the age of 88. Billy was born on May 15, 1930 to William E. Summerlin and Wilma Summerlin in Anniston, Alabama. He graduated from Anniston High School in 1947 and received a BS degree from Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga in 1951. He also received a Masters Degree from Southwestern Theological Seminary in Fort Worth in 1953 and later an MBA from Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama. Billy was married for 67 years to Ann Lee DeKalb Summerlin of Portsmouth, Virginia and raised three sons.

Billy was an accomplished musician and played the trumpet, baritone and trombone and loved big band music. While in college he traveled all over the United States in the Tennessee Temple University brass quartet. For the next 18 years after college Billy worked faithfully in numerous churches in the south and midwest as both a Minister of Education and Music Director. In 1970 he took an administrative position at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Gadsden and worked there for the next 23 years, rising to the level of Senior Vice President before retiring in 1993. Billy was a member of 12th Street Baptist Church and served as a deacon there for many years and also as a member of the Brotherhood Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention. He was also active in the local business community as a member of the Kiwanis Club and served as President for a time.

Billy is survived by his wife Ann, three sons, Phil, Greg and Jeff, his daughter in law, Kelley, and sister, Lucy. He also has three grandchildren, Regan, Alex and Ryan, one great grandchild, Liam, and several cousins and nephews. A graveside service will be held on Friday November 2 at 2:00 at Crestwood Cemetery.
