Obituary

Funeral services for Mrs. Billie Rains will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 22, 2008 at Crestwood Memorial Chapel. Pastor Phillip Elliott and Rev. Larry Fuhrman will officiate. Burial will be at Crestwood Memorial Cemetery. Crestwood Memorial Funeral Home will direct.
Mrs. Rains died on Wednesday, November 19, 2008. She was born on July 5, 1926 in Tennbroeck, Alabama. After raising her family, she obtained her college degrees and was employed by the Etowah County Board of Education, working in their Adult Ed and Community Ed programs until her retirement. She was a faithful member of Glencoe First Baptist Church and served as a Sunday School Teacher for many years.
Mrs. Rains was preceded in death by her parents, James A. and Katie Lee Smith; brothers, Lester Smith, Hoyt Smith, Bobby Smith and Joe Smith; sisters, Noma Lee Wilbanks, Doris Mitchell, Dixie Dennis and Sarah Francis "Tiny" Croft.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Briggs Oliver Rains, of Glencoe; daughters, Scarlett Dianne (Wayne) Farley and Mary Kathryn (Gerald) Gregory; granddaughters, Wendy (Craig) Tinker, Karen Farley and Cassie (Chris) Clark; great grandchildren, Christopher Rains Tinker, Sarah Dianne "Sally" Tinker and Andrew Clark; sisters, Jimmie Faye Williams, Mary Ethel "Myrt" Freeman and Betty Lou Smothers.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Farley, Gerald Gregory, Craig Tinker, Chris Clark, Christopher Tinker and nephews.
The family requests no flowers. Memorials may be made to Glencoe First Baptist Church or to your favorite charity.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Crestwood Memorial Funeral Home.
