Billie "Jo" Thornton Castleberry, 91, of Gadsden Alabama passed away Sunday, November 16, 2014 of natural causes in her home at Regency Pointe.
Mrs. Castleberry was the youngest of four siblings born to Linton H. Thornton and Myrtle Pentecost in Gadsden Alabama. She graduated from Gadsden High School in 1941 and served as the Secretary for their Reunion Committee. After graduation she began working for the local office of the Coca Cola Company where she met her husband, John "Randolph" Castleberry, Jr. They were married in 1943. When Mr. Castleberry returned from serving in WWII they moved to Albertville, Alabama where he managed the Coca Cola Distribution Center and Mrs. Castleberry was employed by the State Diagnostic Laboratory. Mr. and Mrs. Castleberry had two sons, John Randolph Castleberry III and Jerry Thornton Castleberry. They later returned to Gadsden until his retirement and death in 1986. Mrs. Castleberry completed her Bachelor of Science degree from Jacksonville State University in 2003. Her hobbies were traveling, reading, and volunteering at the Baptist Hospital and Veterans Administration Clinic.
She is survived by her son, Jerry Thornton Castleberry, CDR USN ret. and wife, Renee T. Castleberry of Southbridge, Virginia; grandsons, Brandon Bailey Castleberry and his wife Kirstyn Denitali of Phoenix, Arizona and John-Aaron Castleberry of Berkeley, California; granddaughter, Cadet Victoria Castleberry, USCGA, New London, Connecticut; great grandson, Cristian Castleberry; great granddaughter Teah Castleberry; sister-in-law Martha Castleberry of Raleigh, North Carolina; and many nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. at Crestwood Chapel on Wednesday, November 19, 2014. The family will accept friends from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Rev. Lauil Thompson will officiate. Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life following the service at Regency Pointe.
