Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, at Crestwood Memorial Chapel for Betty Joyce Dooley Sauls, 85, Gadsden, who died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014. The Revs. Jack Campbell and Jeff Sauls will officiate. Burial will be in Crestwood Cemetery. Crestwood Memorial Funeral Home will be directing the service.
Mrs. Sauls was a native of Gadsden. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was devoted to God and church, where she served in mission work, Sunday School, Training Union, choir and Vacation Bible Schools. She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church and the Senior Ladies Sunday School class.
Betty graduated valedictorian of Gaston High School in 1946. She was employed for 16 years as secretary at Gaston School. Devoted to the school, she served in PTA, was the PTA president and in 1967 elected as Outstanding PTA President for Etowah County Schools. She served on the Etowah County PTA Council. Many hours were spent volunteering, helping with the extracurricular activities of the school.
Mrs. Sauls was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Gordon Sauls; son, Earl Sauls Jr.; her parents, Charles C. Dooley, Elizabeth Holman Dooley Vickery; and stepfather, the Rev. Fermon C. Vickery.
She is survived by sons, Tim (Teresa) Sauls, Leesburg, Jeff (Debbie) Sauls, Gadsden, and John (Liz) Sauls, Lebanon Tenn.; daughter-in-law, Susan Sauls; grandchildren, Jason (Summer) Sauls, Beth Sauls (Brad Douglas), Amy (Scott) Rains, Jonathan Sauls and Kevin (Kellie) Sauls; great-grandchildren, Wesley and Graham Rains, Brant Sauls, Brady and Colton Sauls; sisters, Gayle Johnson and Charlyn Dooley; sisters-in-law, Louise Ashley and Jerre Blanton; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pallbearers will be grandchildren.

The family is requesting no flowers. Memorials may be made to mission work at Macedonia Baptist Church of Coates Bend, 2040 Macedonia Road, Gadsden, AL 35901.
The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service. -
