Obituary

Betty Joyce Ashworth Fuhrman, 76, went to meet her Savior on Saturday, March 7, 2009. She was under the care of Lawley Hospice due to a general decline in her health. A lifelong resident of Etowah County, she was a 1950 graduate of Gadsden High School and received her BS from Jacksonville State University. Betty Fuhrman was an educator at Emma Sansom, Southside High, Westminster, and Rainbow Middle School, where she taught generations of students. Many enjoyable years were spent in front of a chalkboard. She was able to travel with many of her friends over the last few years and cherished the stories that came with each. She was a proud member of Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority, Gadsden Historical Society, Gadsden High Golden Tigers, Southside Senior Club, and Golden Harvesters. She was raised as a child in Twelfth Street Baptist Church and was an active member of First Baptist Church of Southside. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Gerald Fuhrman, her parents Osceola Sr., and Agnes Ashworth and brother Osceola Ashworth, Jr. She is survived by her children Duane Fuhrman, Gehrig (Carmen) Fuhrman, and Shasta (Windon) Edge, grandchildren Shauna Fuhrman, Morgan Edge, Lee Edge, Wesley and Mason Holmes. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and in-laws. Pallbearers will be Lee Edge, Tim Fuhrman, Brent Fuhrman, Doug Fuhrman, Greg Ledbetter, Shea Stowers, Wesley Holmes, and Mason Holmes. Flowers will be accepted or donations to a memorial fund at First Baptist Church of Southside. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to all the past students who have taken the time to give her a hug and a quick "I love you" over the years. She cherished each one. Additionally, thank you to her caregivers, Dana James, Kelley Lukima, Kim Fuhrman , Beth Grogan, and Kim Whorton, who always had a loving touch and gentle nudge. Services will be at 4 pm Monday, March 9, 2009, at Crestwood Memorial Chapel. Pastor David Denson will officiate. Burial will follow in Crestwood Memorial Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 2pm to 4pm at the funeral home Monday. Crestwood Memorial Funeral Home is in charge.
