Funeral service will be at 11 AM Saturday at Crestwood Chapel for Betty Jean Harris, age 82, of Southside, who passed away February 4, 2015. Her sons in law, Rev. Randall Gay and Mike Hunt, will officiate. Burial will be at Crestwood Cemetery. Crestwood Funeral Home is in charge.

Mrs. Harris was a Christian and a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Southside. She was active in her church, serving in many capacities, whether it be teaching Sunday School or Bible School to cooking. Cooking was what she loved to do and for which she will be best remembered. She tried passing her cooking skills to her children and grandchildren but no one ever came close for she was the best. She was an extraordinary wife, mother, grandmother, and great, grandmother and will be dearly missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Tommy Harris; parents Bonnie and Porter Bohannon; brother Walter Bohannon; and sister Elaine Helms.

She is survived by her children Athena (Randy) Gay, Alice Rogers, Barbara (Mike) Hunt, and Angie (Phil) Roberts; Grandchildren Adrienne (Aaron) Salle', Alaina (Jake) Riggs, Amanda Gay, Nikki (Eric) Geloneck, Joey Rogers, Autumn and Summer Hunt, and Jean-Anne Roberts; and eight great grandchildren.

Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.

The family would like to express their special thanks to the nurses, CNAs, and staff of Gadsden Health and Rehab and Alacare Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Alacare Hospice Fund.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 6 until 8pm.
