Betty Foreman Alford, age 91, formerly of Gadsden, Alabama, passed away on Sunday, October 27th, 2024.
A graveside memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 30th, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Crestwood Cemetery, 2209
East Broad Street, Gadsden, Alabama 35903. The eulogy will be given by Betty's pastor, Reverend Daniel Barkley, from
Gadsden Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Gadsden.
Betty was born to Eugene Foreman and Ruby Burson Foreman on November 1st, 1932, in Gadsden, Alabama. She was
the oldest daughter and one of five children in the Foreman family. In 1950, Betty graduated from Glencoe High School.
After graduation, she married Herston Eugene Alford – the older brother of her lifelong friend, Margaret Alford Miller.
Together, Betty and Herston welcomed daughter Pamela in 1956, and son Dale in 1961. Betty was a member of Gadsden
Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and she participated as a member of the Cora Walker Missionary Circle which was
named after her grandmother. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, and always donated her time to support
her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed sewing and gardening, and she spent much of her time sewing wedding
dresses and tending to her backyard rose garden over the years. Betty was also an avid fisher in her younger years,
entering bass fishing tournaments and enjoying time on the lake.
Betty is preceded in passing by her husband, Herston Alford; son, Dale Alford; grandchildren's father, Jeffrey Pruitt;
parents, Eugene and Ruby Foreman; and brothers, Billy Foreman and Don Foreman.
She is survived by her daughter, Pamela Pruitt; granddaughter, Bethany Nielcen (Ryan); grandson, Andrew Pruitt
(Brittany); sisters, Shirley Prater and Lynn Keener (Terry Mack); as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
A special thank you is given to the doctors, nurses, and staff at The Gardens Assisted Living of Pelham, Brookwood
Medical Center of Birmingham, and Compassus Hospice Care of Birmingham for their kind and compassionate care of
Betty in the latter years of her life.
