Funeral Service will be at 3pm Sunday January 7, 2024 at Crestwood Chapel for Bernice Igene "Jean" Morgan Payne of Gadsden who passed away on January 4, 2024. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Matt Harris will officiate. Burial will be at Crestwood Cemetery. Crestwood Memorial Funeral Home will direct services.
Born to Harvey Sr. and Lurley McBurnett on August 16, 1938 in Cordele, Georgia. Jean, as she was known to all who loved her, lived a long and Useful life. Among her various accomplishments, she was known locally as an exceptional cook and owner in food service. She was a committed volunteer with the Salvation Army. She was proud of her many years of service with Republic Steel Plant. She was a talented writer and shared her love for others in her poetry. She loved God, her children and her family.
Jean is preceded in passing by her parents Clifford Sr. and Imogene Allen; the father of her children Nathan Morgan; siblings Harvey McBurnette, Jr. , Melvin McBurnett, Jeff McBurnette, and Brenda Whitt; sons Skip and Chuck Morgan; grandson Cayle Standridge, and chosen sister Linda Simmons.
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters Sabrina Fells (Randall), Nathany Standridge (Jerry), and Stacy Harris (David); grandchildren Skip Fells (Monica), Taylor Fells, Crystal Crow, Jerry Standridge III (Amanda), Belinda Clem (Jared), Matt Harris (Lauren), Charlie Morgan (Amanda) Dustin Morgan, and Jonathan Morgan; great grandchildren Sady Fells, Emily Fells, Charlie Fells, Andi Fells, Victoria Fells, Amelia Fells, Holden Fells, Elizabeth Standridge, John Standridge, Luke Standridge, Audrey Spurling, Eli Harris, Micah Harris, Jethro Clem , Jude Clem, Alexis Morgan, Coleman Morgan, Hudson Morgan, and Wallace Morgan; Chosen brothers Robert Simmons and Clifford Allen, Jr. (Linda) .
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
Honorary Pallbearer is Cayle Standridge.
