IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Benny Duane
"Big Daddy Coley
August 17, 2022
Benny "Big Daddy" Coley
After a life of love and laughter, our beloved Ben, 'Big Daddy',
went home to be with Jesus on August 17, 2022. Born April 1, 1951,
Benny built his life with Sandra Coley, his schoolyard sweetheart
and wife of 51 years. Family was the joy of his life, and he was a
devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Through his children Phillip Coley and Micah Coley; future
daughter in law Brittney Hallmark; grandchildren James Joseph,
Emma, and Lilly Coley; as well as his brothers Bruce and Charles
Coley; and brother in law Larry Cribbs, Benny's line continues.
Preceded in death by his parents E.E. Coley and Geneva Coley and
his sister Sandra Arrington, he is well-met at those pearly gates.
Special thanks to the medical staff at all the facilities where
care was given, those of home health & hospice, to College Heights
Baptist Church, and to all those that have given us your love and
prayers these last years, months, and weeks.
Benny was an athlete and mentor his entire life having played
baseball, football, and basketball at Gadsden City High School class
of 1969. He excelled at these pursuits and was elected all-state in
basketball his junior and senior year and all-state in football his
senior year. After school Benny continued to pursue his passion for
sports by playing in church softball leagues and playing golf both in
charity tournaments and recreationally throughout his life. Always
one to pass on whatever he could Big Daddy coached little league
baseball and youth basketball at College Heights
Big Daddy was a man who gave his Life to God and a smile to
everyone he met. No one knew him who didn't love him and the
love he had for all people will be with us always. His lust for life is
an example to us and we'll hear his big, booming laugh for the rest
of our lives. We know that he is watching us still, cheering on his
beloved football team and celebrating every milestone and
achievement of his children, and his children's children, time
untold. No man ever loved harder, a true testament to that adage
'work hard, play harder,' and that is his example to us. No one
could count the lives he touched and the ways we loved him.
Roll Tide, Ben. You won the game and Victory is yours. We'll
see you in every good thing until we see you again…
A graveside memorial will be scheduled at a later date.
