Bennie Lyles, 73, of Huntsville, Ala., died Tuesday, May 28, 2013.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Crestwood Chapel. Dr. Charles Wingard will officiate with burial in Crestwood Cemetery. Crestwood Funeral Home is in charge of services.

Mr. Lyles passed away suddenly on Tuesday while working in his yard. He was a hardworking and honorable man. He was a graduate of Emma Sansom High School, where he excelled in football and basketball. He served in the United States Air Force during the Cuban Missile Crisis. After a long career at Republic Steel, he and Maxine moved to Huntsville.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine Lyles; son, Erik; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bunyan Lyles; brothers, Jessie, J B, Clarence; sisters, Shirley, Evie Mae and Louise.

Survivors include son, Patrick (Kelley) Lyles; grandson, Zachary; brother, Winford Lyles; sisters, Loretta Ratledge and Gladys Yow.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 this evening.
