Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Crestwood Memorial Chapel for Barbara C. Whatley, 72, who died on Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011. Larry W. Brooks and the Rev. Thomas Brooks will officiate. Burial will be at Crestwood Memorial Cemetery. Crestwood Memorial Funeral Home will direct. Mrs. Whatley earned a medical technology degree from De Pauw University in Greencastle, Ind., and worked at Children's Hospital in Birmingham and Southern Research Institute. She was of the Methodist faith. She was an avid animal lover, had a wonderful sense of humor, and the Golden China Restaurant was an absolute must every Tuesday. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, and will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents, C.C. and Helen Collins. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Edgar J. Whatley; daughter, Mishaela (Larry) Brooks; son, Matt Whatley; and grandchild, Arial Hope Brooks and special friend Jane McKeon. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Special thanks to Dr. Ralph Wesley and the staff of the ICU at Gadsden Regional Medical Center. The family will receive friends Thursday from 11 a.m. until time of the service at Crestwood Memorial Funeral Home.
