Obituary

Barbara Free Wallace, 81, of Glencoe, Alabama passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 29, 2023. She was born to the late Dewey Thomas and Lena Mae Traffanstedt of Piedmont, AL. She was loved by her daughter, Angie Free Truett (Calvin); grandsons Charles Edward Marshall, III of Gadsden and Austin (Kyla) Truett, Zaven Truett, and Cruz Truett of Empire, AL and two great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Willene Steele, Gadsden, AL and brothers Tommy Traffanstedt(Sandra) of Piedmont, AL and Ronny Traffanstedt (Wanda) of Maryville, TN and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is also survived by her loving sisters of Beta Sigma Phi and her cherished friends.

She is predeceased by her husband Merrill Donald Wallace, and her daughter's father Charles Allen Free; sisters Eva Mae Weaver of Centre, AL and Ila Faye Kirby of Sand Rock, AL; brothers L.D. Traffanstedt, U.B. Traffanstedt, and A.V. Traffanstedt and infant daughter Tina Vernice Free.

Many know Barbara by her portrayed character in the City of Gadsden's "A Walk Through Time". She was actively involved in the Glencoe Public Library and served as a founding Board Member. She was a graduate of Gadsden State Community College and sports enthusiast excelling at women's golf, bowling, and swimming. She worked in the Glencoe Elementary School P.E. Department for many years. She was involved in Red Hat Society, American Cancer Society, March of Dimes, taught Girls in Action through her church and was a forty year member of Beta Sigma Phi . Most of all she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, Sister, Aunt, and friend.

A celebration of Life Memorial will be held at Crestwood Chapel, Gadsden, Alabama. The Reverend Tracy Hutcheson officiating. Service will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at 3:00 pm. The family will receive friends at 2pm prior to the service.

In Lieu of flowers we ask that donations be made to the American Stroke Association or the Glencoe Public Library.
