Thompson, Balfour "Tommy"
Service will be at 11:00am Saturday Dec. 22, 2007 at Crestwood Chapel for Balfour "Tommy" Thompson, age 83, of Gadsden who died Thursday December 20, 2007. Dr. Harris Hand will officiate. Entombment will be in Crestwood Mausoleum. Crestwood Funeral Home will direct.
Mr. Thompson served in the U.S. Navy for 4 years and 9 months During World War II. During his service he was awarded the Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, and one star with Chief Hospital Corpsman Rank. He retired from Walker (Wholesale) Drug of Birmingham after 47 years. He loved his work as a Drug Representative. He was a member of Bellevue Methodist Church in Gadsden. He is preceded in death by his daughter Kelle Thompson Wilson.
Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife of 60 years Barbara Christy Thompson; 2 sons Dave Allen Thompson and Stephen Keith Thompson.
Pallbearers will be Charles L. Johnson, Roy Smith, Dennis Adams, Dave Allen Thompson, Christy Anderson, and Sumner Nesbitt, Jr.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Darwin Harbison, Jerry Rogers, Matt Mabrey, W.A. Boone Joseph Stone, Benny Smith, and James O. Walker, Sr.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to service.
The family will accept flowers or memorials may be made to Bellevue Methodist Church of Gadsden.
