Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at Crestwood Memorial Chapel for Mr. Aubrey Whited, age 85, of Reads Mill, AL., who died on Sunday, March 16, 2008. Revs. Ricky Luallen and Bill Abbott will officiate. Burial will be at Crestwood Memorial Cemetery. Crestwood Memorial Funeral Home will direct.
Mr. Whited was an active member and deacon of Oak Grove Baptist Church for over 40 years. He was a disabled veteran serving in the United States Army during World War II. Aubrey retired from the Ryder Corporation with over 20 years of service and was a retired poultry farmer.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Judy Whited Ashley and his mother, Ada Galloway.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Doris Whited; sons, Danny (Jo) Whited, of Reads Mill, AL. and Lane (Jackie) Whited, of Chelsea, AL; grandchildren, Dana (Todd) Griffith, of Fort Myers, FL., Clark (Dawn) Whited, of Helena, AL., Chris (Jessica) Ashley, of Rainbow City, AL., Blake and Bradley Whited, of Chelsea, AL., 2 great granddaughters, Alex Griffith and Aubrey Whited; 1 great grandson, Chael Griffith; 1 step-brother, Robert L. Galloway; 2 step-sisters, Jessie Johnson and Ivadene Humphrey.
Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Oak Grove Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Bill Pierce and Todd Griffith. Honorary pallbearers are the Adult Men's Sunday School Class at Oak Grove Baptist Church.
Special thanks to the nurses and staff at Gadsden Regional Medical Center, Dr. H.B. Thompson and Dr. Bryan McGwier.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Crestwood Memorial Funeral Home.
