Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday , March 12, 2010 at Crestwood chapel for Alven "Nick" Nixson, 84, Gadsden, who died March 9, 2010. Rev. Billy Boatwright will officiate. Burial at Crestwood Cemetery , Crestwood Funeral Home is in charge.
He was born in Cullman County, and resided in Gadsden for over 50 years. He retired after working 40 years in the printing business for Gadsden Printing and Birch Andersons Printing Companies. He was an Army veteran serving in France and Germany during WWII.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years , Jewell Nixson.
He is survived by his wife; Terreshia Nixson, son; Russell (Tammy) Nixson, daughter; Felecia Nixson (Ralph) Butler, Savannah, GA, granddaughter; Miranda (Mitchell Wright) Butler, Savannah, GA, extended family; Michael (Debbie) Payne, Carla Nichols, Kimberly (Howard) Nelson, Gavin and Jeremiah Nelson, Chasity Self, Kevin (Pam) Payne, Devin (Will) Payne, sisters; Kelsie (W.T.) Reece, Virginia Beach, VA, Mildred (Norman) Spillers, Florence, AL and Mary (Billy Joe) Aycock, Decatur, AL, many nieces and nephews.
The family will accept flowers or donations may be made to Amedisys Hospice Services.
Pallbearers will be Howard Nelson, Tom McNew, Ricky Smith, Elmus Humphrey and Kevin Humphrey.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Stapleton, Alvin "Cowboy" Campbell, Mike Payne and Kevin Payne.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the nurses and staff of Amedisys Hospice Services.
The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to service (12 p.m.- 2 p.m.) at Crestwood Funeral Home.
